Technical University of Lodz
Established in 1945, Technical University of Lodz (TUL) has more than 20,000 students enrolled in BSc and MSc courses and over 500 PhD students. TUL staff members have participated in numerous national and international research projects including 45 projects realised within the European framework programmes (FP5, FP6, and FP7).
Institute of Electronics (IE) of the Technical University of Lodz was founded in 1973. The main research areas concentrate on digital signal and image processing, image analysis, artificial intelligence, microelectronic technology, computer thermography, teleinformatics, modelling of telecommunications systems and electromagnetic compatibility. Currently IE employs about 60 academic staff members and 25 PhD students. IE has completed international projects such as CRIT-2 (1998-2000), COST B11 (1998-2002), COST B21 (2004-2007) and PROeTEX (FP6). IE staff are actively involved in the development and deployment (since 2000) of a campus card system at the Faculty of Electrical, Electronic, Computer and Control Engineering (EECCE), TUL. The system has significantly facilitated the management of teaching and research activities at the Faculty. IE is also a member of European Campus Card Association.
Institute of Electronics, TUL will be involved in a number of activities related to the EECS project. One of them is to carry out research on the current and potential European campus card market, current available technologies and current standards. The main role of the IE in the project is the development of data processing algorithms and software necessary for verification of the concept of the European Education Connectivity Solution (EECS) system applied to real-life university environment and participation in the development of standards evolving from the proposed solution. This includes construction of a fully working EECS prototype, along with core modules for card management and client application interface. IE will also be involved in testing the solutions developed within the project. In particular, this relates to a bilateral student mobility data exchange between Waterford Institute of Technology, Ireland and Technical University of Lodz, Poland. Another activity assigned to TUL is the support of the dissemination and exploitation of the project results, especially in Poland.
