Mecenat
Mecenat was founded in 1985 and has from the start worked on discounts for students. In 1998 Mecenat received a request from The National Swedish Board of Student Aid (CSN) to produce their student identification card (CSN-card). During this time Mecenat developed the CSN-card from a simple paper card valid for discounts on trains and buses and brought it to where it is today; a high quality card, valid for thousands of student discounts.
Mecenat have also developed a web based system for verification of students, which is easy to use and implement. In 2002 they started the Mecenat card which works in the same way as the CSN-card and is valid for the Swedish University students. In all Mecenat have reached one million students.
Mecenat verify students for companies and organisations. They produce and distribute more than one million student identification cards each year. These cards are valid for student discounts on thousands of products and services. Mecenat communicate discounts by mail, e-mail and web.
The cards can also be used as student union member cards, as well as functioning cards at universities, entry cards, library cards etc. Mecenat’s business can be described as a ”double-sided hub” with students on one side and companies on the other side and can be sumed up in these three areas:
- Verification
- Media/Communication
- E-commerce
Verification: Mecenat cooperate with student unions, universities and authorities to secure and verify the student status.
Media/Communication: Mecenat are the best channel in Sweden for companies who want to canalise student discounts to the right target group.
E-commerce: Mecenat’s mission is to promote their partner’s websites and e-commerce, in order to increase their partner’s business among the target group of students.
Mecenat’s role as SME in the EECS Project is to coordinate student discounts and make them available to students across the EU. They are responsible for the Market Research & Analysis of the Project. Mecenat’s aim is to get a clear picture of campus cards as well as of student discounts in the EU. The task will include technical solutions, possible use, existing IP & Standards and the presence of student discounts. Mecenat will pay close attention to the travel discounts for students in order to reduce the economical and geographical barriers for studies across the EU.
