The Card Technology Research Centre at WIT
The Card Technology Research Centre (CTRC) is an industrial research centre in Campus Services at Waterford Institute of Technology, (WIT) Ireland and was established in 2001. The primary objective of the CTRC is to create a centre of excellence in card research, card innovation, card design and training that includes: card technology, campus card solutions, card standardisation and interoperability of card systems. The CTRC has a highly skilled team of researchers and engineers with many years of experience in card technology. Their goal is to strive for best practice and establish successful processes and systems that are future proofed. The CTRC is part of the Campus Services Group at WIT. The Campus Services Group is solely responsible for all non-academic services and facilities to the student population of Waterford Institute of Technology.
The CTRC are recognised globally as the leader in pioneering research and development of campus card applications.
The CTRC has a dedicated core staff and a widely dispersed network of partnerships and collaborations. Our CEO has been honoured with the Professional Development Award by the National Association of Campus Card Users (NACCU), USA, which is the largest consortium of campus card users in the world.
The CTRC is an RTD participant who will be significantly involved in the EECS Project by participating in the knowledge and IP transfer to the SMEs. Their role will be to provide technical expertise to the EECS project SMEs by developing a working campus card management system prototype to enable interoperability and student mobility in universities throughout Europe.
