University of Zagreb
University of Zagreb, Croatia was established in 1669 and is the oldest and largest university in South-Eastern Europe. University of Zagreb consists of 29 faculties, three art academies and the Centre for Croatian Studies. It is the largest teaching institution in Croatia with its comprehensive programmes and over 50,000 full-time undergraduate and postgraduate students. University of Zagreb is a research-oriented institution, contributing over 50 percent to the total research output of Croatia.
Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, University of Zagreb (FER) has experience in various research projects, with industry partners from Croatia and the EU. With over 300 faculty members and 700 new students each year the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department is one of the largest research centres in the region. Good relations with many industry partners assure that state of the art technologies are efficiently applied to create products for the market. FER was the principal research institution that developed and introduced a national academic card to Croatian academic institutions, which has served as a role model for some other systems. University of Zagreb is an academic member of the European Campus Card Association.
In the EECS project, FER will carry out significant Research & Development focusing on the implementation of an efficient card management system, card applications and the development of business models for smart card usage that will be attractive for the SMEs. FER has experience in setting up card based systems to a nationwide market, setting up national regulations and procedures and dealing with technology suppliers. Due to vast experience in IP transfer, FER will also be participating in the knowledge and IP transfer to the SMEs and dissemination of results to the EU countries. FER will be a member of the Technical Committee and will bring its expertise in hardware, software and chip architecture design to the EECS project.
